Job summary

River Valley Cooperative is seeking a Safety Specialist to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across agricultural sites. The role focuses on implementing programs to protect employees, facilities, and the environment while meeting federal and state requirements.

Responsibilities include conducting inspections, delivering safety trainings, and managing environmental compliance, including EPA and OSHA guidelines.

Qualifications

• Some college coursework, continuing education, or training in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Relevant work experience in safety, health, engineering, or industrial operations may substitute for formal education.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Engineering preferred.
• Operations experience desired, preferably in agriculture-related field.
• Basic computer skills and ability to work with multiple software programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct agricultural site compliance inspections, safety audits, and certification processes.
• Deliver toolbox talks, forklift training, and other safety-related training programs.
• Manage environmental compliance including FDA regulations, air emissions, and hazardous materials handling.
• Oversee fall protection programs, respirator fit testing, and CPR training.
• Ensure adherence to state and federal safety regulations (Iowa, Illinois, EPA, OSHA, DOT).
• Prepare and maintain Tier II reports, JHAs, and Emergency Action Plans.
• Complete required government filings and maintain accurate documentation.
• Develop and implement Risk Management Plans for Anhydrous Ammonia.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with safety standards and company policies.

This role focuses on implementing and maintaining programs that protect employees, facilities, and the environment while meeting federal, state, and local requirements.

What You’ll Do:

• Conduct agricultural site compliance inspections, safety audits, and certification processes.
• Deliver toolbox talks, forklift training, and other safety-related training programs.
• Manage environmental compliance including FDA regulations, air emissions, and hazardous materials handling.
• Oversee fall protection programs, respirator fit testing, and CPR training.
