Job summary

Vylor is seeking a Safety Specialist to support our advanced greenhouse facilities in Johnston, Iowa. The individual will be responsible for training, inspections, industrial hygiene, personal safety standards, and chemical inventory.

The safety specialist will work closely with the Controlled Environments Leadership team, the Vylor safety team, and CE personnel/contractors, while managing the safety management system for CE and leading the safety committee.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork.
• Ability to present to leadership and large groups.
• Ability to learn principles of industrial hygiene and personal safety.

Responsibilities

• Proactive hazard identification.
• Support CE safety in modernization projects.
• Implement and maintain safety standards and quality policies.
• Build and maintain a safety culture in CE.
• Lead regular safety audits and drills.
• Serve as point of contact for safety and quality questions.
• Develop and present safety topics to large groups.
• Train and evaluate personnel on applicable certifications (forklift, lockout tagout, fall protection, pesticide safety, respiratory protection, etc.).
• Safety onboarding of new employees and annual recertifications.
• Complete project/task safety permits.
• Chem inventory management.
• Lead the building safety committee.
