Safety Specialist

The Safety Specialist provides direct site support to employees and supervision in all areas of safety. This role works collaboratively with the Safety & Security team and reports directly to the Safety Manager. The team follows a comprehensive annual plan, achieving results through relationships, technical ability, training, and metrics, while driving accountability and a sense of urgency throughout the organization. The Safety Specialist executes site and LSB programs directly and through hands-on interactions with all site personnel.

Primary Responsibilities

• Align and champion the LSB Core Values: Protect What Matters, Make it Better, Be One Team, and Practice Integrity without Compromise.
• Drive a Safety-First Culture supporting stop work authority by anyone in the organization.
• Understand site and LSB procedures and policies; assist in developing job aids and providing in-person training and support.
• Gather data to support, capture, and develop metrics to measure/report progress, success, and improvement opportunities.
• Execute against the annual H&S plan using a systematic approach with transparent measures.
• Support the Safety Committee and build relationships with operations, maintenance, and supervision. Focus on safety interactions to increase knowledge, awareness, and accountability, while developing employees.
• Maintain detailed connections to operating units, maintenance, and projects to ensure effective safety coverage.
• Build knowledge of plant systems to address findings, action items, and challenges, removing barriers to progress.
• Manage safety equipment inspections, fire water systems, rail safety, asbestos management, radio management, permit audits, and self-assessment programs.
• Coordinate PPE, forms, and safety equipment needs.
• Manage air monitoring devices, ensuring calibration, maintenance, and availability.
• Support emergency response capabilities through training, equipment maintenance, and drills; ensure fire protection systems are operational.
• Partner with the Training Manager on safety training curriculum and support.
• Provide technical support to facility personnel to maintain OSHA compliance.
• Close action items from audits, investigations, and inspections.
• Support off-hours safety coverage through an on-call rotation.
