Job summary

Mountain Region Clinical Resources is seeking a Safety Sitter to monitor patients and maintain a calm, therapeutic environment. You will observe patient behavior, respond to needs, and communicate changes to their RN or Nurse Leader to ensure continuous safety.

The role emphasizes de-escalation skills and meticulous documentation, with eligibility for Enterprise Pool opportunities across the CommonSpirit Mountain Region facilities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
• Ability to observe changes in patient behavior and de-escalate when needed.
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Physical capability to perform medium work activities.

Responsibilities

• Direct observation of patients to ensure safety and respond to needs.
• Maintain direct view of patient unless RN directs otherwise.
• Report status changes to the RN promptly and accurately.
• Communicate with patients, families, and staff in a therapeutic manner.
• Document observations for integration into the patient’s chart.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Safety Sitter, you will perform direct observation of patients to maintain safety, utilizing specialized training and de-escalation techniques to create a therapeutic and calming environment.

Every day you will meticulously observe patients, respond to their needs, and effectively communicate any changes in mental and/or physical status to the primary Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Leader, ensuring continuous patient safety.

To be successful in this role, you will possess strong observational skills, a calm demeanor, and expertise in de-escalation techniques.

• Ensures patient safety through continuous observations of patient environment including monitoring patient activities, patient belongings, and room items.
• Always maintains direct view of patient unless instructed otherwise by Registered Nurse (RN).
• Reports patient status changes and needs to RN accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicates in a therapeutic manner to patients, families, and staff.
• Demonstrates the ability to utilize de-escalation techniques appropriately and in a timely manner to insure patient and associate safety.
• Completes documentation of observation and provides to RN for integration in patient’s chart.

We have reimagined our contingent staffing plan with a new Enterprise Resource Pool that offers many options for flexibility, variety, and career growth, while supporting our collective mission to deliver outstanding whole-person care to our flourishing communities. The CommonSpirit Mountain Region Enterprise Resource Pool consists of both clinical and allied roles that flex or float throughout the CommonSpirit Mountain Region system. Associates within the Enterprise Pool will have the opportunity to float to multiple units within one facility, a geographic group of facilities, or to all of our facilities. This pool will provide additional resources to support and supplement the workload and staffing needs across the system.

Enterprise Pool 2:

• Base rate + $3.00/Hr. Pool Differential + Eligible for evening, night, and weekend differentials.
• Assigned to one of four zones. Zone is determined based on your home location. Must be able to travel to the 4 hospitals assigned within that zone.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
• Ability to observe changes in patient behavior, deescalate aggressive or agitated behavior, and anticipate need for further intervention.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association.
• Physical Requirements - Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)

Preferred

• De-escalation training: de-escalation required if sitting for at risk for harm to self or others within 30 days of hire or transfer.
• Healthcare experience, mental health, human services or related, and/or current student clinical placement.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
