Job description

Job Title: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Division: Services - Security

Reports To: Shift Supervisor

Location: Yonkers, NY (Plaza Esperanza)

Salary: $19.65/hour

Summary

The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and property at the family homeless shelter. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Perform daily inspections of all client rooms.
  2. Escort clients to appointments as needed.
  3. Interact with clients, monitor behavior, and maintain rapport by providing excellent customer service. Encourage compliance with facility policies.
  4. Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors using magnetometer/x-ray machine to prevent weapons from entering.
  5. De-escalate crisis situations and document interventions.
  6. Make hourly rounds throughout the facility, including hallways, stairwells, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and offices.
  7. Respond to incidents.
  8. Assist with client intake processes.
  9. Log and manage client property, including handling of AWOL clients’ belongings and storage after mandated periods.
  10. Maintain organized storage areas.
  11. Complete logs, incident reports, and other documentation.
  12. Coordinate with police, fire departments, and other emergency responders as needed.
  13. Perform administrative duties at the operations desk, monitor surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems.
  14. Participate in fire drills, evacuations, and emergency procedures.
  15. Ensure the safety of all equipment.
  16. Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Experience, Education & Requirements

High school diploma or GED and security experience are required. Must possess a valid NYS Security Guard License, an 8-hour annual certificate, and a Fire Guard License (F-02). Excellent communication skills are necessary. Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) is required. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and overtime, is essential. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
