Job Description

Accountability Objectives: Provides and promotes a safe and secure environment. Protects life and property on hospital premises, patrols buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Secures, unlocks, and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security and safety needs of hospital personnel.

Qualifications

1. Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
2. Licensure/Certification: Valid Michigan driver's license; successful completion of department-specific training within six months; current Heart Saver certification.
3. Skills and Experience: Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and conduct investigations; excellent communication skills; physical stamina to stand, walk, assist, lift, and restrain individuals; physical agility and speed; specific vision abilities.
4. Experience: At least one year in law enforcement or military police, or three years in private security; healthcare security experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols to deter crime and respond to emergencies.
• Screen visitors/employees and ensure only authorized personnel access hospital premises.
• Assist emergency responders and perform specialized tasks during emergencies.
• Provide information, directions, and support to staff, patients, and visitors.
• Investigate incidents, report findings, and document appropriately.
• Maintain safety by inspecting buildings and grounds, reporting hazards.
• Respond to emergency calls, assist with patient restraints if necessary.
• Operate security equipment and maintain competency through training.
• Support hospital policies, participate in improvement projects, and promote organizational values.

Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, exposed to weather conditions. Requires standing, walking (70% of time), and physical assistance. Potential exposure to unruly individuals and infectious materials.
