The City of Shelby, NC is seeking a skilled professional to plan, develop, implement, and administer safety and risk management programs, policy development, and related activities under the Director of Human Resources, with performance measured by program effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
This role coordinates the safety program, conducts training for all City employees, and maintains confidential personnel records while coordinating audits, insurance renewals, and claims handling.
Performs difficult administrative and technical work planning, developing, implementing, and administering safety and risk management programs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Human Resources.

Bachelor's degree with coursework in safety, education, business administration, or related field and considerable experience in occupational safety and health training, risk management, workers' compensation, human resources, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of Manager of Environmental Safety and Health (MESH), Public Sector Manager of Environmental Safety and Health (PS-MESH), and Advanced Safety certifications upon hire. Obtain OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer status within two years of hire. Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of general insurance fundamentals, claims processing/adjusting, workers' compensation, employee safety, OSHA, and related areas; thorough knowledge of personnel rules and regulations; general knowledge of State regulations regarding the release of information from employee files; skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to apply established policies, practices, and procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, elected officials, and the general public.
