Job summary

Lee Industrial Contracting, founded in 1989 and based in Pontiac, Michigan, is seeking a dedicated Safety Specialist to enforce safety policies on construction sites and lead OSHA/MIOSHA compliant training programs.

The role involves inspections, incident investigations, and developing site-specific safety plans while maintaining thorough documentation and fostering a safety-first culture across project teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years in occupational safety or construction safety.
  • Experience with rigging, machinery moving, or heavy industrial construction is a plus.
  • Familiarity with OSHA/MIOSHA regulations and field application.
  • Experience with both union and non-union workforces.
  • Safety training delivery and meetings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine job site inspections and audits for safety compliance with company policies and OSHA/MIOSHA.
  • Provide safety and health training for managers, supervisors, and employees (toolbox talks, orientations, task training).
  • Assist with incident investigations by gathering facts and root-cause analysis.
  • Promote safe work practices through coaching and field observations.
  • Support development and implementation of site-specific safety plans and risk assessments.
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection and training records, and incident reports.
  • Serve as safety resource for field personnel on regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties for the Safety Department.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine job site inspections and audits to verify compliance with company safety policies and OSHA/MIOSHA regulations. Identify workplace hazards and work with operations to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide safety and health training for managers, supervisors, and employees, including toolbox talks, new hire orientations, and task-specific training.
  • Assist with incident investigations by gathering facts, identifying root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Promote safe work practices through employee coaching, field observations, and ongoing engagement with project teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of site-specific safety plans, pre-task plans, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and incident reports.
  • Serve as a safety resource for field personnel by answering questions and providing guidance on regulatory and company safety requirements.
  • Perform additional duties assigned in support of the Safety Department.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • One to three years of experience in occupational safety, construction safety, or industrial safety.
  • Experience supporting rigging, machinery moving, equipment installation, or heavy industrial construction activities.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MIOSHA regulations and their practical application in the field.
  • Experience working with both union and non-union workforces.
  • Familiarity with incident investigations, job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels through written and verbal communication.
  • One to two years of experience delivering safety training or facilitating safety meetings preferred.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred.
  • OEM project safety experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and overtime, as business needs require.
Physical Requirements:
  • Mobility & Navigation: The ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and ladders, stoop, kneel, and bend while traversing active construction sites.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Frequent ability to lift and move up to 10–25 pounds (like laptops, blueprints, or small tools), with occasional demands to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Sensory Demands: Excellent visual acuity (including depth perception and color vision) to inspect blueprints and site quality, as well as the ability to focus on specific sounds and speech in loud environments.
  • Environmental Exposure: Resilience to withstand varying outdoor weather, loud noise, vibrations, and potential exposure to airborne particles or dust.
  • PPE Capability: Physical ability to safely wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hard hats, heavy boots, safety vests, and hearing or eye protection.
