Job summary

Asplundh is seeking a Corporate Safety Program Manager to lead the design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of H&S programs across a large geographic territory. You will audit sites regionally and develop action plans to mitigate health risks and hazards to employees while driving continuous safety improvements.

Applicants should have 10+ years in utility construction safety, a relevant bachelor's degree, and CSP/CIH/CHMM where possible.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of utility construction safety experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • CSP/CIH/CHMM certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical expert on H&S compliance for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Audit company sites for H&S program compliance across regions.
  • Develop action plans to control health risks and hazards to employees.
  • Conduct training and material development to support H&S initiatives.
  • Provide governance and quality oversight of H&S programs.
  • Manage projects including coordination, scheduling and cost monitoring.

Corporate Safety Program Manager

Responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of identified Health and Safety (H&S) programs including the complex analysis of data resulting from these programs. Manages existing H&S management programs as well as analyzes data to reduce risk in the work environment. This person will spend much of their time auditing several regions throughout a large geographic territory and then follow up by assisting in the development of action plans to control health risks and hazards to employees.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Serves as a technical expert and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders regarding compliance with H&S regulations.
  • Supports programs to enhance the public image of corporate H&S performance through education activities and other actions that encourage responsible behavior.
  • Performs trending analysis to improve H&S performance by gathering data, developing reports, identifying gaps, evaluating risk and implementing process improvements and/or corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Evaluates, designs and conducts training and materials in support of H&S initiatives.
  • Coaches and mentors all levels of personnel on critical skills, Human Performance, and techniques that build and sustain a zero injury/illness culture.
  • Provides governance and quality oversight of H&S programs.
  • Recommends changes in procedures, processes, design or equipment.
  • Keeps abreast of federal, state and local H&S regulations; reviews technical literature.
  • Conducts comprehensive audits of company sites for compliance to H&S programs.
  • Participates in industrial conferences and benchmarks top performing organizations for program improvements.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of H&S management information systems (MIS).
  • Provides project management services, including project coordination, contract administration, material tracking, scheduling and cost monitoring on projects, and review with management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong ability to communicate with, mentor and influence all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with proven decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to execute large-scale initiatives in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • A strong customer service orientation and collaborative work style is critical. Team oriented and self-motivated.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to design and deliver reports.
  • Superior facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety, electric utility construction safety strongly preferred.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in severe weather and ability to enter manholes, ascend/descend construction equipment that may be a lengthy distance off road.
Education & Experience
  • 10+ year(s) utility construction safety experience.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or other equivalent technical field required.
  • Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) strongly preferred.
Pre-Screen

License & Certifications
  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Up to 75% travel required.
