Job summary

Holder Construction is seeking an Assistant Safety Director to join our Safety team on projects in Fort Wayne, IN and Mooresville, IN. You will lead safety planning, drive field execution, and develop Safety Coordinators, focusing on reducing risk and incidents on complex construction projects.

This role blends people leadership with technical safety expertise, including directing high‑risk activities, implementing HECA and energy control practices, and collaborating with project managers,

Qualifications

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated experience supporting high‑risk construction activities (crane & rigging, LOTO, etc.).
• Proven ability to lead safety efforts on large or complex construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety planning and execution in alignment with project leadership and operational goals.
• Partner closely with project managers and superintendents to proactively integrate safety into project planning and execution.
• Develop, coach, and mentor Safety Coordinators and Senior Safety Coordinators.
• Ensure consistent implementation of Holder safety programs, processes, and expectations.
• Lead planning, review, and execution of high-risk activities (crane & rigging, energy isolation/LOTO, critical lifts, work at height).
• Apply and reinforce Energy-Based Safety principles in planning and field execution to manage exposure to high-risk energy sources.
• Review and provide guidance on critical JHAs, MOPs, lift plans, and energy control procedures.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
• Support preconstruction and work planning efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risk.
