Job summary

Holder Construction in Indiana is seeking an Assistant Safety Director to join the Safety team for projects in Fort Wayne and Mooresville. You will lead safety planning, execution, and team development on complex construction projects, balancing people leadership with technical safety expertise.

Progress toward subject matter expertise in high-risk activities is expected. You will build strong relationships with project teams, trade partners, and clients while advancing Holder safety programs

Qualifications

• OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500 preferred.
• BCSP certification (ASP, CSP, or CHST) required or in progress.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated experience leading safety on large or complex projects.
• Experience supporting high-risk activities such as crane, LOTO, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety planning and execution in alignment with project leadership and goals.
• Partner with project managers and superintendents to integrate safety into planning.
• Develop, coach, and mentor Safety Coordinators and Senior Safety Coordinators.
• Lead high-risk activity planning (crane, rigging, LOTO, etc.) with focus on SIF risk.
• Apply Energy-Based Safety principles in planning and field execution.
• Review JHAs, MOPs, lift plans, and energy control procedures.
• Lead incident investigations and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
• Support preconstruction and work planning to identify and mitigate risk.

Position Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Safety Director to join our Safety team on our projects in Fort Wayne, IN and Mooresville, IN. The Assistant Safety Director provides leadership for safety planning, execution, and team development on complex construction projects. This role blends people leadership with strong technical capability, supporting project teams in integrating safety into planning and field execution. The Assistant Safety Director is expected to operate with increasing independence and is progressing toward subject matter expertise in high-risk activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead safety planning and execution in alignment with project leadership and operational goals
• Partner closely with project managers and superintendents to proactively integrate safety into project planning and execution
• Develop, coach, and mentor Safety Coordinators and Senior Safety Coordinators Ensure consistent implementation of Holder safety programs, processes, and expectations
• Lead planning, review, and execution of high-risk activities (e.g., crane & rigging, energy isolation/LOTO, critical lifts, work at height, etc.), with a focus on Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) risk identification and mitigation
• Apply and reinforce Energy-Based Safety principles (HECA, energy wheel, energy control) in planning and field execution to proactively manage exposure to high-risk energy sources
• Review and provide guidance on critical JHAs, MOPs, lift plans, and energy control procedures to ensure effective hazard identification and control strategies
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation, with emphasis on identifying systemic gaps and preventing recurrence of high-consequence events
• Support preconstruction and work planning efforts to identify, assess, and mitigate risk prior to execution, particularly for high-risk and SIF-potential activities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with project teams, trade partners, and clients
• Support staffing, development, and performance of safety personnel
