  • Alaska Teacher, Type B, or Type C Certificate, preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in school safety, mental health, or crisis management, ideally in rural or remote settings.
  • Background in evidence-based violence prevention or social-emotional curricula.
  • Knowledge of school safety protocols, crisis response, emergency preparedness, and threat assessment procedures.
  • Experience participating on district-level threat assessment teams.
  • Ability to facilitate and coach district teams in reviewing and improving safety plans.
  • Skill in designing and delivering engaging, effective professional development for staff, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across roles and agencies.
  • Understanding of policy development and strategies for gaining school board approval and staff buy-in.
  • Familiarity with Alaska’s geography, cultural landscape, and community resources.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to support culturally responsive practices across diverse populations.
  • Organizational and project management skills to coordinate safety initiatives across multiple districts.
  • Host pre-conference session at the Alaska School Safety and Well-Being Summit.
  • Collaborate with the SERRC School Safety Specialist to develop and implement individualized safety plans.
  • Participate in ongoing Professional Learning Communities or Communities of Practice.


  • Position Title
    Safety Plan Coach

    The AKSafe program aims to enhance student safety and cultivate a supportive, culturally aware environment within Alaska’s schools. This role is integral to fostering a sustainable, resilient safety culture that positively impacts students and communities across the state.

    Position Description
    The Safety Plan Coach is responsible for working with district teams to review current safety plans and identify areas for growth, refinement, or improvement. A key focus will be enhancing collaboration between stakeholders. Personnel, including administrators, special education staff, counselors, and local law enforcement, will receive support, either virtually or in person, to develop safety-related policies, request support from school boards, and implement safety and emergency protocols, including behavior-based supports.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Public Safety, Psychology, or a closely related discipline.
    • Alaska Teacher, Type B, or Type C Certificate, preferred.

    Position Duties and Responsibilities
    • Host pre-conference session at the Alaska School Safety and Well-Being Summit.
    • Collaborate with the SERRC School Safety Specialist to develop and implement individualized safety plans.
    • Participate in ongoing Professional Learning Communities or Communities of Practice.
    Position Location
    Alaska – Remote. Travel within Alaska may be required to attend the Alaska School Safety and Well-Being Summit.

    Working Schedule
    Up to 20 days; scheduled around AKSafe grant activities and events.

    Fingerprints
