Stonington Institute is committed to providing quality substance abuse treatment options for adults in Southeastern Connecticut and surrounding areas. We offer medical detox as well as residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members at our North Stonington location. Our clinic in Groton, CT, offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment, and is conveniently located across the street from The Inn at Trails Corner, a new 180-bed dormitory-style sober community for adult men and women attending our outpatient day treatment programs. The Inn offers overnight accommodations, full-meal service, indoor/outdoor recreation options, a workout room, and a computer center for all clients. We accept private insurance, state-funded plans, and self-pay arrangements.

Safety Officer Essential Responsibilities
  • Receives all incoming deliveries (except dietary department food). Searches all drop-offs for clients, secures contraband, and prepares for distribution during mail call. Distributes business deliveries as appropriate.
  • Verbally interacts with clients requesting access to the building during program hours; ensures clients return to designated locations via communication with Safety Officers at PHP/IOP.
  • Completes documentation as required (e.g., HPRs) for incidents occurring during the shift, contraband (items found, location, in whose possession, location of confiscated items).
  • Serves as backup to Facility Attendant for clients admitted during morning hours, including:
    • Greeting clients arriving for admissions, collecting contraband, completing valuables envelopes. Searching guest belongings and removing additional contraband. Placing all clothing/fabric in dryers for a minimum of 20 minutes on high heat. Bagging and labeling belongings and transferring them to dorms or storage rooms as appropriate.
    • Organizing, storing, and labeling all extra guest luggage, belongings, and confiscated items.
    • Ensuring belongings for discharging clients are packed, accounted for, and in the designated location prior to discharge.
  • Conducts mail call Monday through Friday between 3:00 and 3:30 pm, distributing packages and mail that have been determined after search to be free of contraband and food products.

*This is a full-time position.

Safety Officer Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license required; Public Service License or other DMV passenger endorsement preferred. Must maintain a driving record that meets policy standards.
