The Safety Officer (SO) provides security for the church campus, visitors, staff, and students by maintaining a safe and secure environment. The SO responds to incidents, critical incidents, and handles emergency response activities when appropriate. The SO also provides training services to students, staff, and visitors at Calvary Church campuses as needed or directed. The SO will identify and evaluate security issues and provide quality solutions to maintain a safe environment. The schedule is based on a 20–29-hour swing shift work week with flexibility to adapt to church needs.
Requirements
- Highly motivated and places God first.
- Available and willing to work days, nights, including some weekends, with shifts typically from 1500-2100, flexing between 1530-2130 or 1600-2200 depending on church events.
- Must attend Calvary Church.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of Law Enforcement, Firefighter, Military, or Security experience.
- No felony arrests; must pass background check.
- No arrests for Crimes of Moral Turpitude in the last 20 years.
- No DWI or Domestic Violence arrests in the last 10 years.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications, PowerPoint, and report writing.
- Possession of a cell phone.
- Courteous, helpful, and willing to assist church members.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Proactive in supporting the church's beliefs, goals, policies, and programs.
- Flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a problem solver capable of handling multiple priorities in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to understand paperwork and communicate effectively.
Responsibilities
- Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish a presence.
- Observe for signs of crime or disorder; investigate disturbances.
- Secure all exits, doors, and windows after hours; arm building alarms.
- Respond to alarms by investigating and assessing situations, utilizing cameras if feasible.
- Assist people in need.
- Monitor surveillance cameras to identify disruptions or unlawful acts.
- Record accurate notes of unusual occurrences and suspicious incidents.
- Complete all required reports.
- Be CPR/First Aid certified within one year and respond to medical emergencies.
- Verbal de-escalation skills and minimal use of force.
- Follow policies and procedures set by the Safety and Security Director and Calvary Church Albuquerque.
- Work at various campuses as needed, including Calvary Osuna, Santa Fe, East Mountain, and Westside.
- Coordinate with Police and Fire Departments during emergencies.
- Learn basic camera software knowledge.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically fit to stand and walk for long hours.
- Sufficient stamina for shifts up to 16 hours, including training in Defensive Tactics and Firearms.
- Capable of bending and lifting 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk the campus, climb stairs, and assist or carry disabled or injured individuals.
- Able to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Strength and flexibility for various movements.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional educational degrees or certifications.
- Knowledge in safety and security training, including active shooter response, bomb threats, de-escalation, and liability courses.
