Qualifications

  • Maintain Hospital Safety Manual and Emergency Operations Plan and annexes; ensure periodic reviews.
  • Coordinate safety programs for orientation, mandatory education, and regulatory training for staff.
  • Maintain data and documentation for EC and EM programs.
  • Monitor compliance of safety surveys and report progress to EC and EM committees.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Safety Officer, you will develop, coordinate, and monitor programs to assure compliance with requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care (EC), Emergency Management (EM), OSHA, and NFPA.

Every day you will oversee hazard communication, injury investigations, and reduction efforts, manage life safety education and fire drills, and serve as the on-site security contact and facility contract liaison.

To be successful in this role, you will possess strong expertise in safety and regulatory compliance (TJC, OSHA, NFPA), excellent program development and coordination skills, and the ability to effectively monitor and enforce safety standards while managing vendor relationships.

  • Development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of TJC Environment of Care programs for facilities under the hospital's license. Assesses hospital performance as it relates to the EC and EM standards and identifies areas for improvement. Works with leadership and associates to implement changes.
  • Manages information, collection, and evaluation as it relates to the EC standards. Routinely manages the process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices, which include environment of care rounds and risk assessments.
  • Assesses problems identified, implements changes, and documents process. The safety officer is responsible for making immediate changes or correcting problems when appropriate.
  • Manages the EM program by monitoring, evaluating, developing, training, and/or conducting all disaster-related activities.
  • Manages and maintains the Hospital Safety Manual and Emergency Operations Plan and related Annexes. Ensures that all policies in safety manual and EOP are revised or reviewed by appropriate departments according to hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates safety programs for orientation, mandatory education, accident prevention, TJC, and other regulated and required education for all facilities and staff under the hospital's license.
  • Maintains all data and documentation relative to the EC and EM program.
  • Monitors departmental compliance of required safety surveys or safety regulations. Provides the EC and EM committees with progress reports of all standards as required.
Job Requirements

Required

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in the Safety/Safety Management or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, and/or Fire Safety.
  • A minimum of one (1) year within a healthcare organization
  • Experience in comprehending, interpreting and implementing the requirements of regulatory agencies such as OSHA, TJC, State health statutes regulating Safety and Environmental Health.
