Job summary

Sauer is actively seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for Norfolk, VA. The candidate must hold EM-385 1-1 Level 4 qualifications and DoD experience to lead safety on construction sites, perform daily inspections, and ensure compliance with government safety requirements.

Responsibilities include safety orientations, incident correction, and maintaining comprehensive records. Must pass a security background check and possess strong MS Office skills for reporting.

Qualifications

• 5 years SSHO experience with DoD exposure.
• Level 4 SSHO qualification.
• CSP or CHST credentials.
• OSHA 30-hour Construction certification.
• 24-hour fall protection knowledge.
• Familiar with OSHA 1910/1926 and EM 385 1.1.
• Competent with scaffolds, fall protection, confined spaces, ladders and excavations.

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough safety orientation for all project new hires.
• Deliver strong safety oversight and guidance.
• Guide subcontractors through government safety requirements.
• Perform daily onsite safety inspections and RMS reporting.
• Correct safety deficiencies and document findings.
• Conduct equipment initial inspections and maintain records.
• Maintain daily project communications and AHA matrix.
• Utilize MS Office for reporting and documentation.

Position Description

Site Safety and Health Officer with EM-385 1-1 section 1 Level 4 qualifications and DOD experience.

Essential Functions

• Provide thorough safety orientation for all project new hires
• Excellent communications skills and a passion for safety
• Provide strong safety oversite and guidance
• Guide subcontractors through the preparation of government safety requirements
• Using the behavior based approach to provide safety oversight for various construction activities, including underground utilities, elevated work, confined spaces and other general construction activities
• Conduct daily onsite safety inspections – RMS daily reporting
• Correct and document safety deficiencies
• Conduct Equipment Initial Inspections
• Daily communication with project team
• Provide accurate recordkeeping and AHA matrix
• Above average computer skills (MS Office)
• Able to pass security background check to enter post

Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant SSHO experience with 5 years of DOD experience
• Level 4 SSHO qualified
• CSP or CHST a qualifications
• 30 Hour OSHA in construction
• 24 hour fall protection
• Knowledgeable of OSHA 1910, 1926 and USACE EM 385 1.1
