Safety Manager – Data Center Construction

Location: Reno, NVCompany: HazTek

Position Overview

HazTek is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support mission-critical data center construction operations in Reno, NV.

This is an opportunity for a knowledgeable construction safety professional to take a leadership role on a complex, fast-paced construction project where safety, accountability, and operational excellence are essential.

As the Safety Manager, you will oversee jobsite safety operations, drive OSHA compliance, identify and mitigate construction-related risks, and work closely with project management, subcontractors, and field personnel to maintain the highest standards of safety performance.

Data center construction presents unique challenges, including multiple subcontractors working simultaneously, complex building systems, critical infrastructure, and demanding construction schedules. The successful candidate will bring a proactive, hands‑on approach to safety management, with the ability to recognize potential hazards, influence safe work practices, and hold project teams accountable.

At HazTek, safety is more than compliance. It is a commitment to ensuring every worker returns home safely at the end of each day.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall safety leadership and oversight for mission‑critical data center construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, applicable federal and state safety requirements, and project‑specific safety standards.
  • Maintain a visible, active presence in the field, proactively identifying hazards and reinforcing safe work practices.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite orientations to promote hazard awareness and employee engagement.
  • Perform daily jobsite safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Oversee subcontractor and contractor safety performance, ensuring all trades comply with established project safety requirements and company policies.
  • Work closely with project management, superintendents, subcontractors, and field personnel to integrate safety into daily construction planning and execution.
  • Lead accident and incident investigations, complete required documentation, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Monitor and oversee high‑risk construction activities, including fall protection, scaffolding, steel erection, excavation, crane operations, and material handling.
  • Provide safety oversight for electrical and mechanical construction activities associated with data center infrastructure.
  • Identify potential risks associated with simultaneous operations and coordinate with project teams to minimize exposure to personnel and property.
  • Review and reinforce job hazard analyses (JHAs), activity hazard analyses (AHAs), and other task‑specific safety documentation.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of site‑specific safety plans, programs, and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of safety ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across all project personnel.
  • Serve as a safety resource and trusted partner to project leadership, subcontractors, and field teams.
Qualifications
  • Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum of 7 years of direct construction safety experience required, preferably supporting large‑scale commercial, industrial, mission‑critical, or data center construction projects.
    • Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
    • OSHA 510 and/or OSHA 500 certification a plus.
    • CHST or CSP certification preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of OSHA construction standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
    • Experience overseeing complex construction environments involving multiple subcontractors, trades, and simultaneous construction activities.
    • Knowledge of high‑risk construction operations, including fall protection, scaffolding, steel erection, excavation, electrical safety, and material handling.
    • Ability to conduct comprehensive jobsite inspections, identify potential hazards, lead incident investigations, and implement effective corrective actions.
    • Strong understanding of construction safety planning, risk management, and proactive hazard mitigation.
