Job summary

Friends of Children and Families, Inc. is seeking a Head Start Safety Manager to oversee Transportation, Facilities, and Safety for Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Ada and Elmore Counties. You will lead bus fleet safety, develop compliant policies, and manage related budgets.

The role requires coordinating staffing, training, safety drills, and community liaison activities while ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous program improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; 2 years supervisory/management experience preferred.
• Two years’ transportation, facilities maintenance, safety or related field experience.
• Must pass physical screening, TB test, background check, and drug testing.
• Must have valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance; local travel may be required.

Job Summary

Manages Transportation, Facilities and Safety for Friends of Children and Families, Inc. (FOCAF) Head Start and Early Head Start.

Essential Functions

• Assists with interviewing and hiring of bus driving staff.
• Develops policies and procedures that are in compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and agency, federal, state and local laws.
• Ensures that policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and needed revisions are made.
• Directly supervises Maintenance Technician.
• Ensures the safety of the company vehicles and bus fleet by coordinating and monitoring preventive and regular maintenance and repairs.
• Submits fiscal requests, monitors annual budget and expenditures.
• Monitors all transportation documentation and observations of the bus drivers to ensure compliance and safety.
• Monitors the bus routes ensuring that bus loading zones are safe.
• Responsible for administering the transportation application system.
• Plans and facilitates regular in-service meetings and training for transportation staff.
• Coordinates transportation requests and supports staff in arranging bus services for children and updates bus routes as needed.
• Coordinates with the Associate Director of Operations on bus route closures due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions.
• Responsible for ensuring FOCAF facilities receive consistent maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Manages and monitors all facilities and maintenance contracts.

• Coordinates and monitors the work order system, the facilities plan and the safety checklists.
• Plans and facilitates training for staff on safety topics including safety drills, facilities maintenance, and center safety.
• Conducts regular safety checks and on-site monitoring of safety drills.
• Monitors SDS (Safety Data Sheets) for all centers.
• Monitors, observes and implements safety and emergency policies and procedures.
• Represents the organization in one community group with monthly or quarterly attendance based on community group need.
• Collaborates effectively with the other managers to ensure integrated program operations; implement program goals and work with the team to jointly address and resolve problems.
• Keeps immediate supervisor, and designated others, fully and accurately informed concerning work progress.
• Prioritizes and adjusts to the changing demands of the position.
• Handles and adapts to stressful situations.

Additional Functions

• Comprehensive knowledge of transportation, safety, facilities and maintenance, including regulatory guidelines and effective implementation practices.
• Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with Head Start Performance, and FOCAF Standards.
• Ability to prepare and conduct training sessions, educational/informational presentations, andfacilitate meetings effectively with knowledge of adult learning principles.
• Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance if there is a need to travel locally during the course of the job duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Health, Safety, Transportation, Early Childhood Education or related field; and
• Two years’ experience in transportation, facilities maintenance, safety or related field; and
• Two years’ supervisory/management experience preferred.
• Must pass a physical screening and TB test.
• Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and FOCAF Head Start standards.
• Must pass a drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
