Johansen Construction Company seeks a Safety Manager to lead, develop, and continuously improve our Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across all operations in Washington. You will ensure compliance with federal, DOSH/L&I, and local requirements while fostering a proactive, hazard‑recognition culture focused on incident prevention.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years construction safety experience.
  • OSHA 30 or OSHA 500 certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA/DOSH/L&I construction health & safety standards.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience with incident investigations and workers compensation claims.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain Accident Prevention Program (APP).
  • Track KPIs (TRIR, DART, EMR, leading indicators).
  • Ensure OSHA/DOSH/L&I compliance.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and JHAs.
  • Manage subcontractor safety compliance.
  • Develops, delivers, and coordinates third party safety & environmental training.
  • Aid project management teams in job site hazard recognition and safety analysis.
  • Enforces safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with the APP.
  • Provide technical assistance and site support for all EHS programs.
  • Maintain fleet safety program, DOT compliance, FMSCA reporting, and the investigation of accidents involving fleet equipment and estimation of repair costs.
  • Communicates and works with various third parties, including commercial insurance brokers and providers.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Administers all work-related injury/accident workers compensation claims.
  • Support emergency response and preparedness.

Job description

SUMMARY

The Safety Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and continuously improving the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs across all operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years construction safety experience
  • OSHA 30 or OSHA 500
  • Knowledge of OSHA/DOSH/L&I construction health & safety standards
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and committed to the importance of a people-based safety program.
  • Experience with incident investigations and workers compensation claims
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • CHST, CSP, or ASP
  • HAZWOPER
  • Competent Person Trainer – Trench/Excavation, Fall Protection, Scaffolds.
  • Experience and proficiency in Viewpoint and HCSS Heavy Job
