Job summary

Palmer Food Services in Rochester, NY is seeking a Safety Manager to lead our safety program across food service, meat production and retail environments. This full-time role focuses on protecting employees, customers, and assets while maintaining regulatory compliance and a culture of continuous improvement.

You will develop and implement safety policies, conduct audits and training, investigate incidents, and work with Facilities and Human Resources on security and SDS management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in safety within warehouse and/or production setting with proven increase of responsibility.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct audits, inspections, and training.
• Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, OSHA 30-hour) preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety policy design and programs for food service, meat production, and retail environments.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments for all facilities and operations.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA and other relevant regulatory agencies.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and partner with department leaders to implement corrective actions.
• Organize required training in all departments to increase safety awareness and adherence.
• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for all staff, including equipment safety, and emergency response.
• Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, inspections, and regulatory compliance.

• Collaborate with department heads to integrate safety best practices into daily operations.
• In partnership with Facilities Manager and Human Resources, manage physical security of all locations including system maintenance.
• Manage and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals.
• Serve as point for regulatory inspections and third-party audits.
• Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Salary Range

• $70,000- $95,000 a year

• Ability to travel between company locations as needed.
• Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout production and retail facilities for extended periods.
