Job Title: Safety ManagerJob Description

We are seeking an intermediate to experienced Health & Safety Officer (HSO) to oversee and manage all site health, safety, inspection, and compliance activities on environmental remediation and construction projects. The HSO will serve as the primary safety representative on-site, ensuring adherence to company policies, client requirements, and all applicable regulatory standards while fostering a culture of safety excellence. The successful candidate will be an independent safety professional responsible for conducting inspections, identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and providing safety leadership to project personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary on-site Health & Safety Officer throughout the duration of the project.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific health and safety programs.

  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, local, and client safety requirements.

  • Promote safe work practices and proactive hazard recognition throughout the project.

  • Establish and manage a comprehensive site Inspection/Audit Program.

  • Conduct and document weekly site inspections in coordination with site supervision and client representatives.

  • Perform monthly site inspections to evaluate overall project safety performance.

  • Review inspection findings, identify trends, and ensure timely corrective action implementation.

  • Perform routine informal daily inspections of active work areas.

  • Maintain complete and accurate inspection and audit records on-site.

  • Investigate and document safety incidents, near misses, and hazard observations.

  • Prepare inspection reports and provide regular safety performance summaries to project leadership and client representatives.

  • Track corrective actions and verify their completion.

  • Assist management teams in addressing safety concerns and implementing improvements.

  • Train and coach project personnel on proper inspection techniques and safe work practices.

  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site orientations.

  • Provide guidance to supervisors regarding hazard mitigation and regulatory compliance.

  • Reinforce housekeeping standards and safe operational procedures.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters on-site.

  • Collaborate with project management, field supervision, and client representatives to ensure project safety objectives are achieved.

  • Support project planning activities by evaluating risks and recommending preventive measures.

Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of on-site Health & Safety oversight experience in environmental remediation, heavy civil, construction, industrial, or related projects.

  • Demonstrated experience serving as the lead safety professional on active construction sites.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Hazwoper 40 certification.

  • Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in high-risk environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Safety degree.

  • Bilingual in Portuguese or Spanish.

Work Environment

This position is fully on site in Darien, CT, overseeing multifamily residential construction of siding and roofing. The work hours are from 7am to 3pm or 6am to 2pm. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
