Job summary

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group is seeking a Safety Lead to manage overall safety for energy infrastructure projects in the United States. You will oversee on-site safety for subcontractors and vendors, lead weekly safety meetings, and perform daily audits to ensure a safe working environment.

The role requires experience in high voltage construction, OSHA 30, and safety certifications. Travel up to 90% is possible, with a focus on compliance and risk mitigation for multiple projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a safety role within high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution construction environments.
  • Preference for a safety-focused degree and industry certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project safety and health initiatives for each project.
  • Oversee subcontractor and vendor on-site personnel from a safety perspective.
  • Assist crew members to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings with project personnel.
  • Conduct daily project safety audits with QISG Safety Director.
  • Communicate with customer safety representatives as required.
  • Onboard safety training for new crew members.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents as required.
  • Review project safety requirements and subcontractor safety plans.
  • Create and update safety plans as needed.
  • Ensure reporting from subcontractors (JHA, tailboards).
  • Manage project roster and safety training for field personnel.
  • Manage safety documentation (rosters, certifications).
  • Support Construction Management as requested.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.

About this Role

The Safety Lead manages the overall safety and health for each project assigned. In addition, this position oversees the subcontractor and vendor on-site personnel from a safety perspective, including any safety representatives assigned to their projects. This position works closely with the designated Project Manager and Construction Manger to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. When safety needs are met, this role will also assist the construction management team with construction coordination duties as requested.

What You'll Do
  • Leads project safety and health initiatives for each project assigned
  • Oversees subcontractor and vendor on-site personnel from a safety perspective
  • Proactively assists and supports crew members to achieve a safe work environment
  • Leads weekly safety meetings with all personnel on projects
  • Conducts daily project safety audits in coordination with the QISG Safety Director
  • Communicates with customer safety representatives as required
  • Conducts safety onboarding training for new crew members
  • Conducts accident and incident investigations as required
  • Reviews and understands all project specific safety requirements, customer safety requirements, and QISG safety requirements
  • Reviews subcontractor safety plans as necessary
  • Creates and updates safety plans as required
  • Ensures proper reporting is obtained from subcontractors (job hazard analyses (JHA’s), tailboards, etc.)
  • Manages project roster and ensures adequate safety training for all field personnel
  • Manages all required safety documentation (rosters, certifications, etc.)
  • Supports the Construction Management team as requested
  • Performs any other duties assigned
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures
What You'll Bring
Required Experience and Education
  • High school diploma, or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience in a safety role within high voltage substation, transmission, and distribution construction environments
Preferred Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety related field
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • AED/CPR/First Aid training/certifications
  • Safety certifications (ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST, CUSP, etc.)
Skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA legislation/requirements, resources, and inspection process
  • Working knowledge of Minimum Approach Distances (M.A.D.)
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical system One Line drawings
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team
  • Strong problem evaluation/solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with other team members
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
