Job summary

Scale is seeking a Safety Coordinator / Lab Lead in San Francisco to own end-to-end safety audits and incident documentation within our physical testing operations. This high-impact role sits at the intersection of AI foundation models and robotics hardware, ensuring a secure, compliant, and highly organized lab environment.

You will lead audits, manage incidents, drive CAPA, and develop cross-facility safety standardization while collaborating with hardware and software teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in lab management, safety coordination, or high-velocity robotics/R&D environments.
• Experience building structured audit workflows and incident documentation pipelines (OSHA/ISO robotics safety familiarity preferred).
• Technical comfort navigating complex hardware, multi-modal sensors, and compute rigs.
• Excellent written communication for documentation and enforcing safety protocols across a fast-moving engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Design, schedule, and execute routine safety audits across all physical testing environments to ensure compliance with internal benchmarks and safety standards.
• Own end-to-end incident management: documenting, archiving, and analyzing lab incidents, mechanical anomalies, or near-misses.
• Lead structured post-incident RCA investigations and implement corrective actions (CAPA).
• Track safety metrics and audit trends to proactively surface and mitigate hazards (physical, electrical, battery-related).
• Develop tools and documentation to standardize safe work practices across multiple facilities and partners.
