Job summary

Turner Construction Company is seeking a Summer 2027 Safety Intern in Northern CA (Sacramento) to assist in safety and loss control activities on construction projects or at an office location.

You will help implement safety initiatives, coordinate safety meetings, review subcontractor safety programs, and promote safe working practices while supporting compliance with regulations and company policies. Strong communication, organization, and a proactive attitude are essential.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and actively pursuing college or university degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 1 year completed
• Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques
• Desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry
• Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by assignment
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills
• Proactive, curious, and eager to learn and participate
• Able to work independently with direction and supervision, and in a team environment
• Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite and collaboration tools

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing Building L.I.F.E. and project safety program.
• Assist with identifying and reporting safety violations or unsafe practices.
• Assist with coordinating safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and toolbox meetings.
• Assist with coordinating training at safety meetings, toolbox meetings, and orientations.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company policies.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions per regulations and owner/contractual requirements.
• Assist with administration of the drug screening program.
• Assist with preconstruction meetings and document meetings under supervision.
• Assist with site/work area inspections and developing inspection summaries.
• Assist with maintaining safety records (e.g., pre-task plans, JHA, training records, OSHA 300 log, MSDS, incidents).
• Assist with worker orientation program administration and participation.
