Job summary

Global- a 1st Flagship Company is seeking a Safety Helper to join our team. You will assist with repair, cleanup, encapsulation and removal of hazardous materials such as PACM, PCB, mercury, and lead, and support HWAA operations while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines.

Ideal candidates have maritime labor experience, a valid driver's license, and are medically qualified to wear a negative pressure respirator.

Qualifications

  • One year of general labor experience in a maritime environment or relevant military experience.
  • Valid state driver's license and eligibility to operate company/government vehicles.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a negative pressure respirator.
  • Certifications in AHERA, HAZWOPER, OSHA 10 Maritime, asbestos, shipyard, HWAA.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with repair, cleanup, encapsulation, and removal of hazardous materials (PACM, PCB, mercury, lead).
  • Support operation and maintenance of Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area (HWAA) per safety guidelines.
  • Assist atmospheric testing for safe entry and hot work in confined spaces.
  • Help with vessel and facility workplace inspections and daily waterfront safety checks.
  • Develop understanding of safety, environmental compliance, and waste regulations.
  • Serve as Safety Observer in training and promote workplace safety.
  • Adhere to corporate policies and collaborate professionally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the repair, clean-up, encapsulation, and removal of hazardous materials such as PACM, PCB, mercury, lead, etc.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the Hazardous Waste Accumulation Area (HWAA), ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Assist with atmospheric testing to ensure safe personnel entry and hot work in enclosed and confined spaces.
  • Help conduct annual vessel and facility Workplace Hazard Inspections, as well as daily waterfront inspections for safety hazards.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of safety and environmental compliance, hazardous materials, and waste regulations.
  • Serve as a Safety Observer in training, maintaining alertness to oversee and promote workplace safety.
  • Adhere to corporate core values, policies, and procedures in the execution of all duties.
  • Collaborate effectively with coworkers in a professional manner.
Minimum Requirements:
  • One year of general labor experience in a maritime environment or relevant military experience.
  • Valid state driver's license and eligibility to operate company/government vehicles.
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a negative pressure respirator.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in safety or hazardous material/hazardous waste handling.
  • Certification or training in any of the following:
  • AHERA Building Inspector Certification
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification (HW42)
  • OSHA 10-hour Maritime Card
  • Certified Asbestos Worker with current Washington State license
  • Shipyard Competent Person (gas-free) certification
  • HWAA Operator (HW49) qualified
Security Clearance:
  • Position requires a Trusted Agent Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen per Inactive Shipoff Instruction 5500.3B of May 13
