Job summary

George J. Igel & Co., Inc. seeks a Safety Field Trainer to deliver safety training across field sites and the corporate office. You will conduct 1-on-1 and group sessions, ensure OSHA/DOT compliance and help improve training programs with LMS content, reporting to the Safety Manager.

Requires 5–7 years in construction, OSHA 510/500, Train-the-Trainer, and ability to lead trainings, coordinate with safety and training staff, and work in varied field environments with lifting up to 25 pounds.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of construction safety training experience
  • OSHA 510 and OSHA 500 required
  • Train-the-Trainer certification required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; combination of education/experience considered
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and maintain MVR

Responsibilities

  • Provide and conduct safety training (forklift, aerial lift, flagging, rigging) on field and office sites with demonstrations and competency checks
  • Lead monthly OSHA 10-Hour Training sessions
  • Develop LMS modules to address safety training gaps
  • Coordinate with Safety and Training staff to ensure consistent messaging
  • Deliver field-based instruction on equipment use, safe practices, and regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate respiratory protection needs including fit testing and respirator selection

Safety Field Trainer

Reports to: Safety Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise dictated; 40 - 45 hours per week; in-person

Job Location: 3500 Alum Creek Drive; various job sites

General Overview

The Safety Field Trainer supports efforts to provide safety-related training to all company employees and subcontractors. This position is responsible for conducting both 1-on-1 and group training sessions on a specific jobsite or at the corporate office, ensuring that all personnel are properly trained and confident in performing their work safely and in compliance with established standards. This role also helps ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, as well as the safety rules and requirements of the Company’s clients. Additionally, this role would identify training deficiencies and work intimately with the Training Department to make the necessary adjustments to the company’s training program. This person should consistently demonstrate Integrity, Gratitude, Excellence and Leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Provides and conducts safety training (i.e., forklift operation, aerial lift, flagging, and rigging etc.) on an as-requested basis, both in the field and the corporate office, including practical demonstrations and competency verification
  • Serves as lead instructor for monthly, off-season OSHA 10-Hour Training
  • Learns and assists the safety portion of Field Leadership Orientation
  • Receives direction on off-season training needs through the Training Manager
  • Takes direction on identified trends of safety deficiencies to close training gaps through the development of modules for the Company’s Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Identifies contributing factors in identified skill gaps by working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) at the company.
  • Uses “Lessons Learned” incident reviews as content to develop dynamic, tactile training opportunities
  • Coordinates between Safety and Training staffs to ensure consistent messaging
  • Delivers field-based instruction and coaching on the proper use of equipment, safe work practices, and regulatory compliance, adapting approach based on individual or crew needs
  • Coordinates respiratory protection needs, including facilitating online medical evaluations, scheduling and conducting fit testing, and assisting with respirator selection and purchase
  • Attends internal and external meetings as directed
  • Educates employees on the use of company safety forms and software systems as needed
  • Knows and adheres to all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Five (5)- seven (7) years of experience in the construction industry required
  • Heavy civil construction experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a Substance Use Prevention and Recovery Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana)
  • Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon hire
  • Must maintain an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that meets the Company’s eligibility
Certifications
  • OSHA 510 and OSHA 500 required
  • Train-the-Trainer certification for aerial lift, forklift, scissors lift, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with OSHA, MSHA, DOT and MUTCD preferred
  • Proficiency in email, internet and Microsoft suite of products required
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and site logistics
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Skilled in problem-solving
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Proficient in using company technology and systems
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to perform physical tasks for extended periods (standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, twisting, climbing)
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination on uneven or slippery surfaces
  • Ability to work safely around loud noises and heavy machinery
