Job summary

Valero invites motivated students to join the Valero Intern Program, a hands-on opportunity to work alongside industry experts in refinery operations and safety.

As an intern, you will support safety and compliance initiatives at locations including Port Arthur Refinery, with mentoring, professional development and potential full-time opportunities after graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the specified safety-related fields, required.
• Overall GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale preferred.
• Graduation dates Aug 2027 through May 2029 required.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week required.
• Able and willing to work on-site and in-person required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing systems to meet safety regulations and performance for refinery production facilities.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulations and permits.
• Assist in implementing Emergency Action Plans, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures, and Risk Management Plans.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with local fire departments and response organizations.
• Assist in ensuring implementation of Process Safety Management and Safe Work Practices.
• Assist in implementing site security plans.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology, Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Sciences

GPA 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (preferred)

Graduation Aug 2027 – May 2029 (required)

Ability to work 40 hours per week

Major Accountabilities:

• Assists in implementing systems to meet safety regulations/performance for refinery production facility.
• Assists in implementation of process and procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations and permits under OSHA, TTB, FRA, EPA and state DENR.
• Assists in implement facility’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP), Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), and Risk Management Plan (RMP).
• Assists in completing multi-media responsibility for task driven commitments.
• Assists in establishing and maintaining relationship with local fire departments and response organizations to facilitate their participation in the Facility Response Plan.
• Assists in maintaining and ensuring implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM).
• Assists in ensuring implementation of Safe Work Practices (SWP), including providing training and making required changes.
• Assists in implementing site security plan.

This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.

Qualifications:

• * Currently pursuing bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology, Occupational Safety and Health, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Sciences, required.
• * Overall GPA of 3.2 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale, preferred.
• * Graduation dates of August 2027 through May 2029, required.
• * Ability to work 40 hours per week, required.
• * Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required.
