Job summary

Gaylor Electric is seeking a Safety Engineer to develop and implement health, safety, and well-being procedures for our jobsites, offices, and innovation facilities. You will work with the Safety Team to plan and execute the safety program, and provide proactive training to reduce hazards and injuries.

Ideal candidates hold OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid/AED certificates, a Bachelor's in safety management, and 5–7 years of construction safety experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid/AED credentials.
• Experience in construction safety; CFR 1926 preferred.
• Lockout tagout, NFPA 70E; OSHA 500, BCSP credentials desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the safety team in planning and executing the safety program on jobsites, offices, and facilities.
• Identify and mitigate hazards; promote accident and injury prevention.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Safety Engineer will develop and implement procedures, guidelines, and best practices to promote and ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our jobsites, innovation facilities, and offices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Uses Gaylor Values as tools to carry out all job responsibilities
• Maintains confidentiality of all information
• Inspects jobsites and communicates with project and safety teams to identify safety risks and concerns
• Provides expert guidance on best practices for identifying and reducing exposure to dangerous conditions
• Adopts a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees via training, toolbox talks, newsletter articles and other forms of written and verbal communication
• Develops and implements a system to report, monitor, and correct safety problems
• Prepares, composes, and initiates correspondence, memoranda, presentation materials, and reports
• Organizes and prioritizes workload to meet deadlines
• Maintains appropriate records, files, documentation, etc
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for working with the Safety Team in the planning and execution of the Gaylor safety program and assisting operational units to recognize and mitigate hazards on jobsites, offices and facilities. Support and maintain a safety culture focused on accident and injury prevention.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• May require working in all elements (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) depending on job location and/or time of year
• Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities (port-o-lets)
• Must have required hand tools at all times while at work site (waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs.)
• Must be able to work scheduled hours, 40 hours per week.
• Must be able to work in noisy environments
• Must be able to remain calm in times of heightened emotional situations
• Must work well with others as a member of a team to complete tasks

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to wear personnel protective equipment (i.e., hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high visibility vest, safety harness, etc.) when required
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
• Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
• Possess good vision/hearing (normal or corrected)
• Ability to make transition from designated employee parking areas to construction areas and be able to gain access to all levels of building/structure, even if only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but deemed safe for use
• Ability to work while constantly moving on one's feet
• Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
• Ability to work while sitting or standing for long periods
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times

MINIMUM EDUCATION

• Minimum of high school graduate, holder of G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience.
• OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid/AED credentials
