Responsibilities

  • Capture safety requirements from customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform safety reviews of preliminary system and equipment architecture.
  • Execute safety activities in compliance with ARP4761.
  • Elaborate safety and reliability analyses and documentation (SSA, FTA, FMECA, CM Analysis).
  • UseRam Commander to evaluate equipment failure rates and reliability.
  • Interface with System, Equipment, and Electronics engineers to address safety aspects.
  • Act as focal point for customer cybersecurity aspects and capture equipment requirements for cybersecurity regulation.

As a Safety Engineer with the Nidec Aerospace team, you will design electric propulsion systems for battery‑powered aircraft. Your work will enable the world to sustainably and efficiently move from point A to point B while ensuring compliance with aerospace safety standards.

Job Description

Purpose of Role: The Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Electric Engines are designed according to the safety standards required for aerospace applications. You will capture safety requirements, perform safety analysis, and produce documentation that demonstrates compliance with applicable safety regulations.

The role requires influencing design teams—system, motor, and electronics—to meet required safety and reliability standards. You will work in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment to develop an Electric Engine.

Responsibilities
  • Capture safety requirements from customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform safety reviews of preliminary system and equipment architecture.
  • Execute safety‑related activities in compliance with ARP4761.
  • Elaborate safety and reliability analysis and documentation, including:
    • System Safety Assessment
    • Fault Tree Analysis
    • FMEA/FMECA
    • Common Mode Analysis
    • Particular Risks Analysis
  • Use reliability prediction tools (e.g., Ram Commander) to evaluate equipment failure rates.
  • Interface with System, Equipment, and Electronics engineers to ensure safety aspects are addressed.
  • Act as the focal point for customer cybersecurity aspects and capture equipment requirements for compliance with cybersecurity regulation.
Technical Attributes and Experience
Essential
  • Experience with new product development and phase‑gate processes.
  • Experience with System Safety Assessment of aerospace systems and ARP4761.
  • Experience with safety analysis of electronics equipment and circuits.
  • Experience with electronics reliability prediction.
  • Willingness to work and travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Strong skills in managing complexity and ambiguity.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in Safety Assessment for electronic equipment.
