Job summary

City of Eden Prairie is seeking a part-time Safety Education Instructor to support aquatic facilities and staff at Eden Prairie Community Center. You will teach safety courses such as CPR/First Aid/AED and lifeguarding, and may serve as lifeguard or swim instructor with appropriate certs.

This role requires Lifeguard Training, CPR, First Aid; training provided upon hire. Hours vary, including evenings and weekends; located at 16700 Valley View Road, Eden Prairie.

Qualifications

• Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications required (training provided)
• Must be 17 years of age; 1 year experience in recreation/aquatics or related field preferred
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends; ability to swim 500 yards

• Located at Eden Prairie Community Center (16700 Valley View Road, Eden Prairie, MN).
• Hours vary, will depend on course schedule. May include daytime, evening, weekend hours.

Responsibilities

The Safety Education Instructor role is to support the aquatic facilities and staff including water safety instructors, lifeguards and promote safety in Eden Prairie pools and beaches. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

• Instructs safety education courses, in compliance with the certifying agency such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Courses may include, but are not limited to, CPR/First Aid/AED training, Lifeguarding, Babysitters Training, and Wilderness/Remote First Aid.
• May work as a lifeguard or swim instructor with relevant certifications.
• While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

• Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications are required for this position, but you do not have to be certified to apply.Training is available upon hire.
• Must be 17 years of age. One (1) year experience working/volunteering in a recreation, aquatics, education, or related field preferred.
• Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
• Must have the ability to swim a minimum of 500 yards and can lift and move objects. Candidates invited to an interview will be asked to complete and successfully pass the City’s evaluation of a skills assessment prior to a conditional job offer.
• Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.
