Job description

SAFETY DRIVER – AUTONOMOUS VEHICLE TESTING

Austin, TX | $22–$25/hour | Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week | Permanent Direct Hire

If you're tired of wondering when your next Uber or Lyft ride is coming...

If you're tired of chasing delivery orders, working unpredictable hours...

If you're tired of temporary jobs where you're never sure whether your contract will be extended...

This could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

We're hiring Safety Drivers to join a growing autonomous vehicle team in Austin, TX

And here's what makes this opportunity different:

THIS IS NOT A GIG. THIS IS NOT A TEMP JOB.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

You’ll have a consistent 40‑hour workweek, an hourly wage of $22–$25/hour, benefits, and the opportunity to build a career while working with cutting‑edge autonomous vehicle technology.

You won’t have to wake up wondering:

"When is my next ride going to come in?"

"Is my contract going to be renewed?"

"What am I going to do when this temporary assignment ends?"

Instead, you'll have the stability of a permanent position while doing work that's far more exciting than traditional driving.

As a Safety Driver, you'll work directly with autonomous vehicles during real‑world testing.

You'll drive when necessary, supervise the vehicle while it's operating autonomously, monitor everything happening around you, and help the team identify situations that can make autonomous driving technology safer and better.

You're not simply driving a vehicle.

You're helping develop technology that is changing the way people will move in the future.

And you don't need to be a tech expert or have previous autonomous vehicle experience.

If you're an experienced, safety-conscious driver who is comfortable learning new technology, you can learn the rest. Training is provided.

  • $22–$25 per hour
  • Full-time – 40 hours per week
  • Direct placement
  • Multiple shift options
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k)

This is an opportunity to replace the uncertainty of gig work with a stable paycheck and a real long-term position.

You’ll be part of the team responsible for safely testing autonomous vehicles on real roads.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Driving autonomous vehicles during real-world testing
  • Switching between manual driving and autonomous mode supervision
  • Monitoring traffic, pedestrians, weather, road conditions, and potential hazards
  • Maintaining constant situational awareness
  • Responding appropriately to unexpected situations
  • Working with remote operators and engineering teams
  • Performing vehicle safety checks
  • Recording observations and driving data
  • Following detailed testing and safety procedures
  • Assisting with basic technology-related tasks
  • Supporting simple hardware adjustments and software uploads
  • Providing feedback that helps improve autonomous driving systems

You don't have to come from the technology industry.

In fact, some of the best candidates may be people who already spend their days behind the wheel.

You could be coming from:

  • Uber or Lyft
  • Professional driving
  • Fleet operations
  • Shuttle or transportation services
  • Security
  • Military
  • Automotive
  • Logistics
  • Transportation
  • IT or technology

Or maybe you're simply an experienced driver who is ready for something more stable and more interesting. If you know how to drive safely, pay attention to what's happening around you, make good decisions under pressure, and learn new systems, we want to hear from you.

  • Valid U.S. driver's license held for at least 3 years
  • Strong driving skills
  • Excellent situational awareness
  • Good judgment behind the wheel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures
  • Comfort using technology
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Ability to work the assigned schedule

No autonomous vehicle experience required.

No engineering degree required.

Training is provided.

A quick MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) check will be completed as part of the hiring process to confirm your driving history. It’s a simple, standard step for this position. Nothing to worry about.

This is a 40-hour-per-week permanent position, with multiple schedules available depending on location.

The goal is simple:

Give you a predictable schedule, reliable income, and a long-term opportunity — without the uncertainty that comes with gig
