Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking a skilled Tractor Trailer Chassis Mechanic in New York to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair intermodal chassis and trailers. You will ensure equipment meets safety standards while maximizing fleet reliability and minimizing downtime.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and comply with DOT/OSHA regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months of mechanical, fleet maintenance, trailer, or chassis repair experience required.
• Experience with intermodal chassis maintenance preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• IICL Chassis Inspector Certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to obtain TWIC, ERailSafe, and other required site credentials.
• Basic knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on chassis, trailers, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, axle, electrical, wheel-end, and structural systems.
• Conduct annual, pre-repair, and post-repair inspections in compliance with AAR, IICL, FMCSA, DOT, and company standards.
• Identify and document equipment defects using mobile inspection technology.
• Perform quality control inspections and verify repairs are completed to standard.
• Address DVIR deficiencies and ensure equipment is safe and road-ready.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
• Operate company vehicles safely and comply with all company and safety policies.
• Support vendor audits, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
