Job summary

Zūm is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead safety operations at its Howard County, MD location. This role covers the complete safety lifecycle—from program development and training to incident management and regulatory compliance—and requires building a culture of behavioral safety to protect students, drivers, and communities.

You will oversee safety staff, manage KPIs, ensure FMCSA/OSHA/DOT standards, coordinate investigations, and work with recruiting to maintain qualified staffing.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in safety management within the transportation industry.
• In-depth knowledge of FMCSA regulations, state pupil transportation laws, OSHA/DOT standards.
• Preferred supervisory experience, specifically in supervising and training a driver workforce.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Director of Pupil Transportation (CDPT), or other relevant safety certifications are preferred.
• SBDI (School Bus Driver Instructor) certification preferred.
• Prior experience with vehicle camera and monitoring systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety culture, design, develop, and implement training programs for transportation personnel.
• Monitor safety KPIs, ensure compliance with FMCSA, state pupil transportation laws, OSHA/DOT standards, and maintain records.
• Oversee safety staff and recruiting coordination to maintain staffing levels and certifications.
• Lead incident investigations with root cause analysis and coordinate with insurers and authorities.
