Carpenter & Paterson, Inc. is currently hiring for a full-time Safety Coordinator to work out of our Waggaman, LA location. The Safety Coordinator will support and coordinate the Environmental, Health & Safety programs at our Waggaman manufacturing facility. This position will have day-to-day ownership of the EHS program at the Waggaman facility, serving as the primary EHS presence and point of contact on site. The Corporate EHS team will provide direction, resources, training, auditing, and ongoing support to ensure the facility's EHS programs are effectively implemented and maintained.
- Support and maintain the facility's EHS programs and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain EHS records, including injury/illness documentation, required reporting, inspections, and program documentation.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and risk assessments and coordinate corrective actions.
- Lead or assist with incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including root-cause analysis and follow-up.
- Coordinate employee EHS training, maintain training records, and communicate applicable safety requirements and regulatory updates.
- Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor, engaging employees and supervisors to identify hazards, encourage reporting, and address safety concerns.
- Support emergency preparedness, drills, and response activities as needed.
- Monitor EHS performance and trends and provide regular safety metrics and reports to facility and Corporate EHS leadership.
- Lead and facilitate the facility Safety Committee and actively participate in required EHS meetings.
- Serve as the facility's primary EHS point of contact and liaison, ensuring safety concerns and corrective actions are communicated, assigned, tracked, and completed while promoting employee engagement and a positive safety culture.
Ideal Candidate:
- Minimum 2 years of EHS or safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.
- Comfortable leading safety training, presentations, and meetings and engaging employees in safety discussions.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn and utilize EHS software, reporting systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment, including regularly walking the facility and working around equipment, noise, and varying environmental conditions.
- Strong planning, organization, and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates initiative and a proactive approach to identifying hazards, addressing concerns, and improving safety.
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and accountability.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with employees, supervisors, facility leadership, and Corporate EHS.
- EHS-related certifications are a plus, including OSHA 30, COSS, CHST, RCRA, First Aid/CPR, or other relevant certifications.
Days/Shift:
- Monday thru Thursday 8:00am-5:00pm
- Friday 8:00am-2:30pm
