Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking a Safety Coordinator to safeguard personnel and assets on our construction projects. You will enforce safety programs, assess risks, investigate incidents, and help develop proactive policies.

You will supervise crews, coordinate OSHA reviews, conduct JHAs for trenching and pipe laying, and partner with field supervision to embed safety into daily planning and operations.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of construction safety experience with an undergraduate degree in safety and health (or related discipline) or demonstrated construction safety and trade experience.
• Agile, energetic, data driven approach to achieving individual and organizational objectives while balancing short term and long-term goals.
• Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation.
• Proficiency with safety management software and data reporting

Responsibilities

• Supervises and ensures the safety of employees, trade partners, and public.
• Enforces corporate and project safety programs and federal/state/local safety standards.
• Guides safety staff and assists in their development.
• Directs daily operations and identifies opportunities to improve safety regulations.
• Conducts risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents and long-term health hazards.
• Presents safety information and documentation to General Contractors (GCs).
• Investigates and reports on accidents, incidents, and near-misses; recommends corrective actions.
• Partners with field supervision to embed safety into project planning and execution.

Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator safeguards workforce and assets by enforcing regulations, assessing risks, investigating incidents, and crafting safety programs. The Safety Coordinator supports project teams, oversees hazard mitigation, monitors performance metrics, and drives continuous improvement to maintain compliance and reduce risks.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Supervises and ensures the safety of employees, trade partners, and public
• Enforces corporate and projects specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards
• Guide safety staff and assists in their development
• Directs daily operations and identifies opportunities to improve safety regulations
• Facilitates third party safety reviews including OSHA
• Conducts risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illness, and long-term health hazards
• Provides support to project teams on safety-related matters, including accident investigation and reporting
• Partners with field supervision to ensure safety hazard mitigation measures are included in the planning of project construction activities
• Develops and catalogs Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) specific to trenching and pipe laying
• Presents safety information and documentation to various General Contractors (GCs)
• Stays up to date with industry's best practices and regulatory changes to continuously improve safety standards
• Investigates and reports on accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence
• Performs other duties, as assigned

Requirements

• Four (4) + years of relevant construction safety experience with an undergraduate degree in safety and health (or related discipline) or demonstrated construction safety and trade experience
• Agile, energetic, data driven approach to achieving individual and organizational objectives while balancing short term and long-term goals

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation
• Solid understanding of potentially hazardous materials and practices in the workplace.
• Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting statistics
• Working knowledge of safety management software
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Excellent supervisory and leadership abilities
• OSHA 500 certification
• Bilingual (speak English and Spanish fluently)
