The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in helping keep hundreds of Sterling Foods team members safe every day across our plants, from the production floor to the warehouse. Working closely with supervisors, managers, and team members, this role helps strengthen our safety policies, programs, and procedures while promoting Sterling Foods' 24/7 culture of care.

Position Summary

At Sterling Foods, safety is more than a program-it's a core value. The Safety Coordinator supports the administration and execution of Sterling Foods' Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) programs, helping create and maintain a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace for everyone.

This position is hands-on and highly visible, requiring strong communication, collaboration, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report to and provide support to the Safety Manager.
  • Respond to team members' safety concerns and assist in addressing issues promptly.
  • Assist with incident response and related responsibilities.
  • Conduct daily facility safety walk-throughs.
  • Assist with safety investigations and incident follow-up.
  • Co-facilitate New Employee Orientation (NEO) training on Saturdays or other scheduled days.
  • Conduct safety and quality inspections and submit work orders as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, fire, severe weather, and spills.
  • Coordinate the registration and removal of hazardous waste as directed by the Safety Manager.
  • Identify and address unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Promote compliance with GMPs and established safety rules.
  • Distribute safety-related items and supplies to Maintenance and Production departments.
  • Inspect safety supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE), including heat-resistant gloves, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves and sleeves, respirators, cooling vests, safety glasses, first-aid kits, cold/heat gloves, aprons, hairnets, and related supplies.
  • Clean filters at water stations monthly and support the mat/shoe insert labeling and retention program.
  • Organize and schedule the annual health fair and flu vaccination program.
  • Assist with quarterly Quality & Safety R&R activities.
  • Maintain and update safety boards in production and break-room areas.
  • Conduct required equipment and emergency-safety inspections, including eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits.
  • Conduct safety training as assigned.
  • Perform blade changes as required.
  • Track and maintain safety training records.
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations across all shifts, including GMP compliance, safety shoe requirements, PIT PM, and safe driving practices.
  • Attend and successfully complete required training courses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to build strong, positive working relationships with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, with the ability to anticipate potential hazards, identify opportunities for improvement, and solve problems proactively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable using technology and computer applications, including spreadsheets and tables.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
