Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. in the United States is seeking a Safety Compliance Specialist to monitor job site safety and regulatory adherence.

You will identify hazards, coordinate with management, and support accident investigations while promoting a strong safety culture. The role requires bilingual proficiency in Farsi and Dari and English, OSHA 30 certification or equivalent experience, and 2+ years in construction safety.

Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety experience.

Responsibilities

  • Observe job activities and identify site hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EPA and other regulations.
  • Provide direction for immediate corrective actions to management.
  • Identify conditions likely to cause accidents and report to operations.
  • Share safety findings with peer Safety Professionals.
  • Participate in post-accident investigations and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with accident documentation and follow-up medical care as needed.
  • Develop and coordinate programs to reduce injuries and losses.
  • Assist in developing safety policies and maintain safety data in the system.
  • Conduct safety training and new employee orientation.
  • Create training records and input into the system.
  • Lead field hazard assessments and coach crews on pre-task planning.
  • Visually inspect Thompson vehicles and equipment for roadworthiness.
  • Assist in pre-job/shutdown planning and build relationships with crews.
  • Address policy infractions through counseling and coaching.
  • Attend customer sponsored safety meetings.

Position Description
Job Responsibilities
  • Observe job activities and identify any site hazards.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all regulatory guidelines (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Provide direction to management and employees for immediate actions if hazards or compliance issues are present.
  • Identify conditions which could produce accidents and communicate to operations management so that conditions can be eliminated.
  • Communicate safety findings to peer Safety Professionals so that information is shared between areas and sites.
  • Participate in post-accident investigations and make recommendations to prevent accident from recurring.
  • Assist with accident documentation (e.g. witness statements, photos, etc.).
  • Assist with care of an injured employee and, if directed by the safety manager, accompany the employee to initial and follow-up medical treatment to ensure that employee receives proper care and that the physician understands employee’s duties and explanation of our light duty policy.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses or deaths and financial losses.
  • Assist with the development of Corporate policies and procedures for safety.
  • Maintain safety data and enter it in to the EHS Management System.
  • Participate and/or lead reviews of safety data and help develop responses for any identified trends.
  • Conduct safety training and new employee orientation.
  • Create records of safety training and ensure that they are properly input into the correct computer system.
  • Complete minimum required field hazard assessments
  • Coach foremen and craft personnel on proper use of pre-task plans
  • Visually inspect Thompson vehicles/equipment for damage and roadworthiness.
  • Assist in pre-job/shutdown planning.
  • Make personal contact with the working crews to build relationships, address concerns and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Counsel/coach employee when policy infractions are noted.
  • Attend customer sponsored/mandated safety meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Farsi fluency - must be able to read, write and clearly communicate in Farsi
  • Dari fluence - must be able to read, write and clearly communicate in Dari
  • One of the following:
    • High School Graduate, OSHA 30, and 5 years of experience
    • Associates Degree and 3 years of experience
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Candidates with Associates or Bachelors in non-Safety related disciplines must have an OSHA 30 certification as well
    • 2 years of safety experience in any construction or general industry setting
    • Basic computer skills
    • English fluency - must be able to read, write and clearly communicate in English
