Job summary

SPC Construction is seeking a Safety Coordinator to promote a culture of safety on a major New York transit infrastructure project. You will inspect, train, and provide technical support to ensure compliance with Health and Safety programs and regulations.

Partner with site crews to address hazards, conduct DHA, and lead toolbox talks while coordinating with subcontractors and leadership on safety program progress.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years construction or safety experience.
  • Identify onsite project safety risks and mitigate accordingly.
  • Strong multitasking and organization skills.
  • Verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates safety equipment needs and ensures availability for upcoming work.
  • Assists in investigations and reporting of accidents or injuries with timely resolutions.
  • Provides first aid and emergency services to onsite incidents; coordinates with clinics.
  • Supports evaluation of subcontractor safety programs and corrective actions.
  • Delivers toolbox talks to project site staff at prescribed frequencies.
  • Presents progress of the project safety program to leadership.

Overview

As a Safety Coordinator, you will inspect, evaluate, train and provide technical support for work crews to ensure compliance with Health and Safety program and agency regulations. Join our $400M high-impact transit infrastructure initiative, Rockaway Line Resiliency and Rehabilitation, that’s shaping the future of New York's transportation system. This dynamic project encompasses the design and construction of critical viaduct repairs at the Hammels Wye Campus and along both the East and West Branches of the Rockaway Line. It also includes the design and installation of advanced flood mitigation systems, ensuring long-term resilience against extreme weather. At Beach 105th Street Station, we're delivering major upgrades, including a new signal tower, track crossover, and comprehensive traction-power, signal, and utility improvements. The project also involves the replacement of key electrical and mechanical components on the iconic South Channel Bridge.

How You Will Make an Impact
  • Identifies, documents and resolves onsite safety risks or discrepancies during daily site walks. Documents Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) using Company prescribed procedures and software.
  • Evaluates and identifies all safety equipment needs for project work. Participates in daily and weekly meetings to ensure all necessary equipment is ordered, stocked and available for upcoming work.
  • Assists in investigations and reporting regarding accidents, injuries or illnesses, fire, property damage and other safety related incidents to ensure timely and compliant resolutions. Recommends improvements based on performed trend analysis.
  • Works closely with onsite work crews to provide first aid and emergency services to any onsite injury or incident. Ensures worksite injuries are accurately documented and offsite medical clinics attend to employee injury in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Supports evaluation of subcontractors and subcontractor safety programs. Notifies management of any non-compliant safety procedures and participates in corrective action discussions to resolve in a timely manner.
  • Presents toolbox talk content to project site staff within the prescribed frequency, as determined by manager.
  • Presents the progress of the project safety program to leadership, as directed.
Who You Are
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Health & Safety or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years construction or safety experience required.
  • Able to identify onsite project safety risks and recommend mitigation within safety and project program requirements.
  • Able to take on special tasks or projects with limited direction and oversight required.
  • Strong multitasking and organization skills required.
  • Able to take ownership for assigned tasks, as defined by supervisor.
  • General knowledge of construction site equipment, methods and processes.
  • Verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Growing knowledge to control or eliminate hazards following prescribed methods.
