Job summary

Sonoco is seeking a Safety Coordinator at our Columbia, SC recycling plant. You will promote safety and health systems, lead safety programs, coordinate daily activities, and ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA and state/local rules.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, a bachelor’s in health/safety or related science preferred, 2–4 years of manufacturing safety experience, and strong communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; bilingual Spanish is helpful.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's in Health/Safety or related Science preferred.
  • 2–4 years safety experience in manufacturing or related field.
  • Proficiency with Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations.
  • Good written, verbal and presentation communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote continuous improvement of facility safety and health systems to reduce accidents and illnesses.
  • Lead, motivate and foster a safety-conscious culture in the workplace.
  • Coordinate day-to-day activities to meet safety and health standards and internal policies.
  • Interface with hourly and salaried employees to promote safety programs and accident prevention.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and safety inspections and initiate corrective actions.
