Job summary

Sonoco in Columbia, SC is hiring a Safety Coordinator for our recycling plant. The role focuses on leading safety initiatives, promoting OSHA compliance, and driving a safety-first culture with operations teams.

The ideal candidate will have a HS diploma (BA in Health/Safety preferred), 2–4 years of manufacturing safety experience, and strong communication skills. This is a hands-on, people-oriented position at a facility-wide level.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma; preferred Bachelor's in health/safety or related field.
  • 2–4 years of safety experience in manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills; bilingual Spanish helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Promote continuous improvement of facility safety and health systems to reduce accidents and illnesses.
  • Lead and foster a safety-conscious culture across the workforce; engage operations staff and management.
  • Coordinate day-to-day safety activities and ensure compliance with Federal, State and local regulations and internal policies.
  • Keep Safety programs current with corporate safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections, initiate corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
