Job summary

Obayashi Corporation is seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to reduce harm incidents and prevent accidents across the North American Civil Group. The role partners with the Safety Director to improve protocols, training, and communications at Foster City, CA. Travel is required to support sites and safety services.

Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s in OH&S, OSHA expertise, and 2+ years in safety. Strong data reporting using Excel and Power BI is preferred.

  • OSHA knowledge and compliance experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety audits and inspections.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop and update safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate safety training programs for employees.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and prevention.
  • Maintain records of inspections, incidents, and training.
  • Collaborate with management to promote safety culture.
  • Prepare reports on safety activities and compliance status.
  • Act as point of contact for safety concerns.
  • Promote safety culture across NACG and NARHQ.

Job description

OBAYASHI CORPORATION is seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator who works to reduce harm incidents and prevent accidents, injuries, fires, or other damage within the corporation. This individual will work directly with the Safety Director to support the safety functionality of the company. This position goes beyond simply adhering to regulations; it involves the continuous assessment and improvement of safety protocols, thorough training programs, and effective communication strategies. The ideal candidate would contribute to regulatory compliance and create a secure and productive work environment. Traveling is imperative. This position reports to the Safety Director, based in Foster City, CA.

Responsibilities :
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of the workplace and help manage the processes of the safety software platform.
  • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Develop and update safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety training programs for employees.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety.
  • Prepare and submit reports on safety activities and compliance status.
  • Act as a point of contact for safety-related issues and concerns.
  • Promote and enforce our safety culture within the North American Civil Group (NACG), North American Regional Headquarters (NARHQ), and group companies.
Education & Work Experience :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field. GSP certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety-related role within the industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Experience in conducting detailed safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Skills :
  • Proficient in safety management software and tools, with experience utilizing them to enhance safety practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with expertise in Excel and Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a focus on building strong relationships and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver effective safety training programs.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with a focus on clear reporting and training delivery.

  • Requires navigation of an active construction site
  • Travel is required, approximately 10% to 15% travel to support job sites for safety inspections, meetings, training, and other Safety services

Anticipated Salary Range : $90,000 - $115,000 USD / Year

The final salary offered will be based on various factors, including the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and relevant market considerations. This salary range reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role within California. Compensation in other states may vary based on local market conditions and applicable regulations.
