Job description

OBJECTIVE

Manage the comprehensive Health, Safety, and Environmental program at the Chesterton facility while providing regular EHS support to additional locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the hazardous waste management program, including employee training, on-site waste monitoring, coordinating timely removal, and submitting required regulatory reports
  • Monitor overall safety program implementation and provide guidance to supervisory personnel to help them fulfill their safety obligations
  • Conduct daily activities focused on employee safety, health, and environmental protection
  • Form and lead a safety committee with representatives from supervisory and hourly staff, facilitating monthly meetings to address safety concerns and goals
  • Maintain comprehensive EHS documentation (written programs, SDS sheets, audits, training records, incident reports)
  • Develop and deliver safety orientation materials and training for new and reassigned employees, including Job Hazard Analyses and safety protocols
  • Create and implement annual safety training plans with monthly sessions, maintaining all associated records
  • Establish and manage a Contractor Safety Program, providing both safety and process-related training
  • Lead Business Continuity Planning and emergency response coordination
  • Perform regular safety inspections across facilities
  • Ensure adequate supply of first aid materials across all locations
  • Participate in corporate safety initiatives and meetings
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate PPE for each process, providing proper usage training including respirator fit testing
  • Monitor environmental compliance activities to meet all regulatory permit requirements
  • Complete required reporting to regulatory agencies (IDEM, IOSHA, EPA, DOT)
  • Conduct audits and inspections at additional locations as needed
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
  • Demonstrated skills in customer focus, performance ownership, collaborative teamwork, and communication
  • SAP experience preferred
