Position Overview
The Safety and Training Supervisor is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation of students through exceptional leadership, comprehensive driver education, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include: overseeing recruitment, classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, record-keeping, and accident investigation.
Requirements
- Educational Level: High School diploma/GED
- Certification/License Required: Valid Commercial Driver’s License; Third Party Tester Certification (or obtain within first year); State School Bus Driver Instructor certification
- Experience: At least 3 years of job related experience; increasing level of responsibility desired
- Physical Activities: Routine physical activities required to fulfill job responsibilities
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Understand basic math, written procedures, documentation, Georgia traffic laws, federal, state and local transportation regulations, office practices, computer applications; provide leadership and customer service; maintain all applicable licenses and certifications
- Ability: Schedule activities, analyze data, write professional correspondence, problem-solve independently, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, lift up to 25 lbs, sit/stand extended periods, work with diverse groups
Essential Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety and training programs.
- Oversee classroom and behind-the-wheel training for new and existing team members.
- Maintain accurate FMCSA, DOT, and state-mandated records.
- Develop and implement a transportation safety program including accident analysis, defensive driving, student management, emergency procedures, safety awards.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and other district offices for recruitment and hiring.
- Manage department’s response to accidents/incidents, investigations, paperwork, review camera footage, GPS info, driver post-accident testing.
- Coordinate post-accident training and retraining efforts.
- Supervise, evaluate, and coach the Safety and Training team.
- Remain knowledgeable with DOT, OSHA, GaDOE, FMCSA and ELDT requirements.
- Implement and monitor on-site safety program in alignment with OSHA standards.
- Collaborate with school staff to deliver Safe Rider Practices instruction.
- Assist director with developing safety policies, severe weather protocols, weather cancellations, emergency response, etc.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and training workshops as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
