Job Description

Work Location: 901 N. Cameron St. Harrisburg, PA, with responsibilities for the entire 11-county system.

Schedule: Mon - Fri 8 AM - 4 PM, with call response when needed. Approximately 12 days per year of half-day weekend training sessions.

Pay: $50,000 - $65,000/year

Paid Weekly

The position plays a critical role in supporting the Susquehanna Regional Transportation Authority's mission of mobility. Public transportation impacts lives deeply, providing access to life-changing experiences. Our culture emphasizes innovation and stewardship. This role involves leading, educating, developing, and modeling safe behaviors to enhance the Authority's safety culture. It also includes assisting with safety training, planning, and implementing safety, security, and risk management programs.

Key/Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Safety, Security and Training Officer (SSTO). The Safety and Training Coordinators and Safety Clerk report to this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the implementation and review of the Authority’s Safety, Security, and Emergency Plans.
  • Monitoring training and reviewing Safety Management Systems under the direction of the SSTO.
  • Supporting the development of the Authority’s safety culture.
  • Administering workers' compensation programs, including claims management and legal documentation.
  • Overseeing accident review and safety committees, documenting incidents, and promoting safety initiatives.
  • Maintaining safety programs such as Hazard Communication and OSHA compliance.
  • Handling filings and representing the Authority professionally to the public and emergency services.
  • Communicating safety goals and initiatives internally and externally.
  • Investigating and analyzing accidents, injuries, and customer reports, ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions.
  • Supporting employee training and certification processes.
  • Managing staff performance, coaching, and enforcing policies.
  • Supporting the Safety Management System and fostering team development.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, high ethical standards, and organizational reputation.
  • Participating in community outreach and maintaining effective communication within the organization.
  • Continuing professional development through workshops, publications, and networking.

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum 3 years of safety-related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stress management skills.
  • Ability to understand transit operations, union contracts, and legal compliance.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and professional in representation.
  • Work hours may vary, including weekends and overtime.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Training provided; must possess a valid Class "B" CDL with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction lifted, not under suspension or revocation.
  • Valid DOT medical card required.
  • Position is subject to US DOT drug and alcohol testing protocols.
