A governmental organization in Hawaii is seeking a full-time Safety and Driver Improvement Coordinator. This role involves planning and implementing driver improvement programs and conducting safety inspections. Candidates must possess a high school diploma, four years of driver training experience, and a valid CDL Class A. Plans, develops, and implements comprehensive industrial safety and driver improvement programs for a major operating department or plans, develops, and implements a comprehensive driver improvement program and participates in the industrial safety program for the central human resources agency; serves as a fleet safety examiner; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Environmental Management - Administration Division in Hilo.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:
*Commercial Driver License (CDL): Applicants must possess a valid CDL Class A with H, T, X, and N endorsements. If you have an out-of-state CDL, you must transfer it to a Hawai'i issued CDL by the time of appointment. Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: principles and practices of supervision; laws and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles and the licensing of drivers; operating procedures of a variety of motor vehicles, safety devices, and features pertinent thereto; the theory of the internal combustion engine; vehicle accident hazards and methods of control, correction, and prevention; proper and safe driving techniques; highway safety as it pertains to motor vehicle operation; preventive and general maintenance practices relating to motorized equipment; industrial and construction accident hazards and methods of correction and prevention; industrial safety devices and equipment; safety inspection principles, practices, and procedures; techniques of group instruction; basic examining and testing practices; investigation methods and techniques; and report writing.
Ability to: plan, organize, and coordinate industrial safety and driver improvement programs; assign, review, and supervise the work of subordinate trainers; prepare and develop training outlines and materials; schedule and conduct safety, driver training, equipment operator training, and first aid classes; conduct performance examinations and determine driver's competency; investigate and determine causes of accidents; interpret and explain traffic laws, regulations, and general principles of traffic and highway safety; explain the purposes and functions of automotive system components, and common malfunctions and causes; operate a variety of motor vehicles including heavy trucks and construction and other equipment; deal tactfully and effectively with others; write clear and concise reports; speak effectively before groups.
