Safety and Compliance Specialist II - Hazardous Materials

Job Description

The Hazardous Materials Specialist II will be responsible for advising service center personnel, general office employees, and customers on processes related to hazardous and non-hazardous incidents. This position works closely with outside environmental vendors in managing incidents from start to completion.

Responsibilities
  1. Handle Safety hotline calls regarding hazardous material questions such as shipping paper requirements, placarding, etc.
  2. Advise billing department, field employees, and customers on hazardous material bill of ladings.
  3. Review vendor invoices to ensure accuracy.
  4. Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
  5. Manage incidents and direct field personnel involving hazardous and non-hazardous material spills.
  6. Position requires after hour on-call responsibilities.
  7. Provide hazardous material training for the Safety Communications and Support team.
  8. Other duties and projects, as assigned.
  9. Reconcile overnight incident reports with environmental management vendors to ensure all spills are properly reported.
  10. Upload DOT reportable 5800 reports to PHMSA.
Requirements
Education
  • Associate's Degree, required
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred
Experience
  • 2 years or equivalent experience or training in industrial safety, hazardous material regulations, DOT, OSHA, and EPA rules and regulations, preferred
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Upon Hire, required

Other Details
Work Hours
  • Full-Time: Generally, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with occasional irregular hours depending on workload. This position also includes after hours on-call responsibilities.
Compensation
  • This is an hourly position paid weekly.
