Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Safety Ambassador to patrol assigned zones on foot or by bike, deter disruptive behavior, and assist pedestrians with information and directions. The role is outdoors in all weather conditions and requires a valid HS diploma or GED and being 18+ years old.

You’ll report incidents, engage with the public in a friendly manner, and complete simple daily reports in English. Training is provided, and weekly pay plus benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred. We will train.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided).
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English language in order to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance, and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
