Job summary

Samaritan Medical Center in Portland, ME, is seeking a patient-focused Mental Health Aide for the 01.7680 SMC MENTAL HEALTH department. Requires a high school diploma; BLS within 3 months; Behavior Management training within 6 months; and at least one year experience with mental illness or substance use. Strong confidentiality, communication, teamwork and safety awareness are essential.

Shift is 12 hours at night; 36 hours per week. Pay range is $16.94–$26.26 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Behavior Management training required within 6 months of hire.
• BLS certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire/transfer.
• Minimum one year experience working with persons suffering from mental illness, alcoholism or substance abuse preferred.
• Observes confidentiality regarding protected health information. Demonstrates positive communication, discretion, diplomacy and teamwork. Supports the decisions of the treatment team.
• Ability to work under stress, write legibly, document accurately; communicate patient observations to staff.

• Ability to recognize and intervene in potentially violent situations. Must demonstrate ability to effectively communicate, interact in a method that is appropriate for the age group to which the service is provided.

• Ability to move and lift supplies up to 75 pounds and to safely move, transport patients using safe handling equipment.
