Job description

Do you enjoy talking to people and have a passion for educating? Do you like driving and want to get paid for it? This could be the perfect fit for you. Help inform Resort guests in an entertaining and educating way while driving them around our 350-acres Safari with 70 different species from 6 continents. You’ll see animals that are playing, giving birth, watch them grow up, and even assist with animal feeding sessions. No previous animal experience is needed. Interested in working in the animal field? This position is a great starting point! You will spend your day at the Savannah Sunset Resort and Spa, getting to know the guests that stay there while taking them on tours, helping with their bags, and shuttling them to different areas of the park. Please note this is not a hands-on animal position. The Safari season is from March-November with training starting in January/February. Applicants that do not meet qualifications will not be considered for this position but may be considered for other positions at Six Flags.

Qualifications:

1. 21 years of age or older.
2. Strong public speaking skills and outgoing personality strongly preferred.
3. Acting or previous guide experience preferred but not required.
4. Approachable and positive attitude.
5. Ability to talk to large groups as well as one on one.
6. Valid driver’s license in good standing. Must have been driving for a minimum of 2 full years.
7. No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
8. Available to work at least 3 days a week throughout the length of the season. This must include weekends, holidays, and nights.
9. Able to communicate effectively in the English language, including the ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend.
10. Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
11. Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods.
12. Willing to learn in all different methods including PowerPoint, hands on, reading, and written assessments.
13. Be able to take constructive criticism and apply during your training and daily operation.
14. Able to react well in stressful situations or emergencies.
15. Must maintain a strong commitment to safety.
16. Able to work around a variety of different animals.
17. Must be a team player and treat co-workers, management, and other departments with respect.
18. Must be able and willing to interact with guests in an engaging and professional manner.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Memorize all safari animal species facts in a timely manner.
2. Interact with guests in a fun, informative and respectful way.
3. Support our Save an Icon conservation initiative by communicating the program to guests.
4. Maintain clean and sanitary vehicles and work areas.
5. Respect Six Flags’ property, equipment, trainers, team members, and supervisors.
6. Adhere to all Six Flags and departmental policies, including but not limited to attendance, punctuality, and grooming guidelines.
7. Report any animal abnormalities or abnormal park conditions to the appropriate person in that area.
8. Ensure each guest has a memorable experience by entertaining and educating each individual they come in contact with.
9. Effectively and professionally communicate on radio maintaining clear and concise transmissions.
10. Safely operate a vehicle in an off-road situation, while providing animals the right of way.
11. Work well in a team environment.
12. Be a team player and help in other areas of the Safari Department.
13. Confidently shuttle guests to other areas of the Six Flags Great Adventure Resort, including the Theme Park, Water Park, and Resort parking.
14. Assist guests’ with moving their luggage to and from their cars and rooms.

Physical Demands:

1. May be required to stand, sit, kneel, bend, and/or crouch for extended periods of time.
2. Moderate walking to and from the vehicles, base, resort, and animal areas and from personal car to base in all weather conditions.
3. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This includes pulling and pushing gates in safari as well as handling guests’ luggage.
4. May be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions including extreme cold or heat.
5. Must be able to work in close proximity to animal ambassadors.
6. Noise level of the work environment is moderate.
