Job summary

The Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas is seeking an instructor to teach hands-on computer training and customer service within a structured classroom setting. You will use effective training techniques and assist in course development to meet program objectives.

Qualifications

  • MOS Certification in Word and Excel is required or can be earned with a two-week training period.
  • Some college credits in computer science, information science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum one–two years’ classroom instruction experience preferred. Experience with individuals with disabilities helpful.

Job description

Instruct the classroom in hands on computer training and customer service, using effective classroom training techniques. Recommend appropriate training methods/media. Provide input as to course needs and assist in course development as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Instruct computer classes in compliance with Kansas Department of Corrections Juvenile Offenders and Department of Children and Families TANF grant and client contracts.
  • Preform proactive outreach activities, including identifying and cultivating referral sources, delivering community presentations, and building relationships that support client enrollment and program awareness.
  • Actively cultivate client and community relationships to generate referrals, strengthen partnerships, and ensure a consistent pipeline of program participants.
  • Assist in the development, review, and refinement of curriculum materials to ensure alignment with program objectives and learner needs.
  • Create a positive learning environment where students are encouraged and motivated to learn.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and report attendance and student progress to appropriate parties including referral sources through tracking sheets and other provided mechanisms.
  • Communicate as necessary with referral representatives from the Kansas Department of Corrections, Sedgwick County Juvenile Field Services, DCF-TANF, and other referral sources for clients.
  • Follow up with SACT graduates to gather and report outcomes as appropriate.
  • Enforce policy and rules with students. Communicate and escal ... issues when appropriate in a timely manner to Vice President, Director and or referral representatives.
  • Maintain computer hardware and software within the scope of training and testing requirements in the classrooms and testing rooms as needed.
  • Maintain cost effective and timely inventory of required text books, exam vouchers, snacks, beverages, and other supplies needed for classes.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Vice President or Director.
Job Requirements:
EDUCATION

Some college credits in computer science, information science, or related field preferred.

CERTIFICATION

MOS Certification in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Can train a candidate in coursework to achieve certifications, but must pass within a two-week time period.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum one – two years’ experience in classroom instruction with the ability to learn and instruct students in the Microsoft Office Suite of tools preferred. One – two years’ experience in training individuals in customer service preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities helpful.

SKILLS

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrate ability to be a collaborative team player, result driven; handles ambiguity.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires sitting, standing, bending, walking, and reaching. May require lifting up to 25 pounds or more. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate machines such as computers, copier, fax, and telephone. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

Must handle diverse work problems on a daily basis. Personal maturity and sensitivity is an important attribute. Desire to work with individuals with disabilities. Able to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information.
